Am I alone in feeling like this?

There is not a great deal of information available about what happens to women after an abortion because of an entrenched culture of silence and secrecy around it in our society. One thing we do know is that abortion itself is very common:

  • According to the Office for National Statistics: 34% of all women in the United Kingdom will experience at least one abortion in their lifetime.[1] Statistics show that this is constant across most population groups within the UK.
  • As a report from The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (The Care of Women Requesting Induced Abortion) recognised, “At least one third of women will have had an abortion by the time they reach the age of 45 years.”[2]
  • 10% of all women in the United Kingdom will experience at more than one abortion [3]

“I thought I was the only one who felt like this” [N. aged 32]

Many of the women on our courses say that they thought they were the only ones to have been affected by their experience of abortion. They felt isolated and feared being misunderstood if they expressed their emotions.

Nothing could be further from the truth. As the above statistics show, abortion is widespread in our society and many women probably experience the same feelings and thoughts following an abortion. Don’t remain in trapped in the silence, come and speak to us.
